Arte como Construção da Memória
Leito em Porcelana é uma iniciativa artística e cultural que propõe um mergulho poético e crítico na história da cidade de Pedreira a partir dos cacos de cerâmica, faiança e porcelana descartados no leito do rio Jaguari — resíduos industriais agora ressignificados pelo artista como arte e memória.
Entende-se hoje que em meados do século 20, quando esta indústria se fortalecia no território pedreirense e moldava o desenvolvimento econômico da cidade, marcas mais profundas e duradouras foram derramadas. Com uma perda diária considerável de peças produzidas por falhas gerais no processo e um caminho ainda inexistente para o reaproveitamento destas mesmas, o descarte então se dava em terra ou água. O rio Jaguari, que serpenteia pelo coração de Pedreira, foi quintal de muitas dessas fábricas, e uma escolha lúcida para o descarte dos fragmentos do progresso.
Este projeto, então, busca fazer um resgate histórico e um movimento de preservação da memória coletiva da cidade através de uma abordagem contemporânea, ao ressignificar estes resíduos industriais em uma poderosa declaração sobre a interseção entre arte, história e ecologia — através do sentir.
Ressignificar estes fragmentos de louça é questionar sua natureza, sugerir sentido e oferecer uma imersão no tempo, no território e nos vestígios que permanecem vivos sob as nossas águas, criando uma forte declaração visual que materializa consequências históricas de maneira estética e provocativa, a fim de habilitar o diálogo, o desenvolvimento de pensamento crítico e a troca de saberes.
É possível promover uma reflexão crítica sobre o legado da indústria da porcelana e louça em geral, sua relação com o desenvolvimento da cidade e o seu impacto, e também instigar e convidar as pessoas a conhecerem uma parte da história da cidade pelo olhar sensível e potente da arte, e criando assim, um meio para que a comunidade se lembre e reflita sobre o impacto dessa história, que conecta passado, presente e futuro de maneira significativa.
Torna-se por fim, esta exposição, apresentada dentro do emblemático Museu da Porcelana de Pedreira, uma contribuição para a valorização do patrimônio cultural de Pedreira, e podendo ser vista como uma extensão do patrimônio histórico, que não apenas celebra o passado, mas também aprende através dele, sugerindo caminhos para compreendê-la e aprendê-la de forma sensível e consciente.

Porcelain Riverbed:
Art as the Construction of Memory
Porcelain Riverbed is an artistic and cultural initiative that proposes a poetic and critical immersion into the history of the city of Pedreira, starting from shards of ceramic, earthenware, and porcelain discarded in the riverbed of the Jaguari River — industrial residues now re-signified by the artist as art and memory.
It is now understood that in the mid-20th century, when this industry was strengthening within the territory of Pedreira and shaping the city’s economic development, deeper and more lasting marks were also being deposited. With a considerable daily loss of pieces caused by general failures in the production process, and with no existing path for their reuse, disposal occurred either on land or in water. The Jaguari River, which winds through the heart of Pedreira, became the backyard of many of these factories — a lucid choice for the disposal of the fragments of progress.
This project therefore seeks to carry out a historical recovery and an act of preservation of the city’s collective memory through a contemporary approach, by re-signifying these industrial residues into a powerful statement on the intersection of art, history, and ecology — through feeling.
To re-signify these fragments of tableware is to question their nature, suggest meaning, and offer an immersion in time, territory, and in the traces that remain alive beneath our waters, creating a strong visual statement that materializes historical consequences in an aesthetic and provocative way, enabling dialogue, the development of critical thought, and the exchange of knowledge.
It becomes possible to promote a critical reflection on the legacy of the porcelain and ceramics industry, its relationship with the city’s development and its impact, while also inviting people to discover a part of the city’s history through the sensitive and powerful lens of art — thus creating a means for the community to remember and reflect on the impact of this history, which meaningfully connects past, present, and future.
Finally, this exhibition, presented within the emblematic Museum of Porcelain of Pedreira, becomes a contribution to the appreciation of Pedreira’s cultural heritage, and may be seen as an extension of its historical patrimony — one that not only celebrates the past, but also learns from it, suggesting ways of understanding it in a sensitive and conscious manner.

A obra reúne 24 fragmentos de porcelana coletados do leito do rio Jaguari em Pedreira, cada qual acompanhado de uma palavra especificamente designada e carimbada em cerâmica fria, criando um diálogo entre materialidade e linguagem. Os cacos evocam fragilidade e efemeridade, ao tempo em que também resgatam um tempo-outro, passado, e ainda sim presente. A relação entre peça e palavra sugerem uma poesia visual que explora a interação entre fragmentos do passado e a palavra como elementos de significação.
Assim, juntos, contam uma história própria, resgatada do esquecimento, e constroem um arquivo sensível que registra — e clama — por reflexão sobre a identidade pedreirense.

The work brings together 24 porcelain fragments collected from the Jaguari riverbed in Pedreira, each accompanied by a specifically designated word stamped on cold ceramic, creating a dialogue between materiality and language. The shards evoke fragility and ephemerality, while also rescuing a time-other, past, yet present. The relationship between piece and word suggests a visual poetry that explores the interaction between fragments of the past and words as elements of meaning.
Thus, together, they tell their own story, rescued from oblivion, and construct a sensitive archive that records — and calls for — reflection on Pedreira's identity.
